John Nikodym Age 41
Wife Janice and 2 children- Jacob 10
and Jamie 8.
I have lived in the south central
Nebraska town of Red Cloud since I was 3 so don't know any better.
My father owned and operated a John Deere
Dealership here in Red Cloud so I grew up in the business and found out early
that I enjoyed working on things Mechanical.
I began to collect and restore antique tractors at
an early age. In about 1980 I bought a 1970 Corvette Roadster and over the
next few years also owned a '64 Vette Roadster and '69 Vette Coupe. I only
drove and enjoyed these cars, did not belong to any clubs or participate in any
collector car activities. Also in the early '80's I bought and completely
restored a '62 T Bird Landau Coupe. I sold all of these cars in the 80's
and did not do anything with cars for several years. My antique tractor
hobby was my main interest at that time. In the late 1990's I became
interested in having just one old touring car with the thought
of participating in early car tours. I purchased a 1918 Velie model 38
touring in 1997 and this led to a growing interest in early cars. Shortly
after buying the Velie I joined the HCCA and AACA. I do not recall any
particular reason or way that I was persuaded to join the AACA . I did
not have the time to participate in many car related activities until the last
few years. Dad and I sold the John Deere Dealership in 1997 and
began full time farming. In 2003 we rented out most of our farm
ground so I now have more free time to participate in old car activities.
I was finally able to attend Hershey for the first time in 2003 since
it is durring fall harvest. Janice and I participated in
our first of what I hope to be many more Glidden Tours this past fall in
Branson with our 1919 Stephens Touring car. My primary love in the old car
hobby is restoration and touring although I was persuaded to show my freshly
restored 1924 R&V Knight Model H Touring this past year. The first
time I had ever shown a car at any type of show was at the Central Div. National
Spring Meet in Metropolis, IL in May 2004 where the R&V received it's first
JR. I then showed it at Hershey last fall to receive it's SR
award. I plan to show it at the Grand National in North Glen, CO in Aug
and then get to driving the thing.
I joined the Nebraska Region AACA when it was
formed in 2002 and now serve as Secretary.
I now have more antique cars than I care to
admit.
